HEART'S  BOY ..... a true story.

Sometime back there was a young fella who was reluctant to go to bed when he was supposed to. He must have had an endless supply of reasons to just stay up that little bit longer every night and oh boy some of them were rippers!

Now one night in particular this young man decided to really try it on. It was way past his bedtime and with school and work the next morning  it meant the stern approach was needed. He went off down to his bedroom upset and protesting as I called out to him, "don't forget to say your prayers."

A short time passed and I thought I had better go and check on him, as I did each night after he was finally in bed. Usually we had a quiet talk to wind down the day and maybe a made-up story or two depending how tired I was and how late it was!

Well, this night as I walked  down the hallway I heard muffled noises coming from his room. As I got closer I listened harder and came to the conclusion that he was still upset and was sobbing. As I entered his darkened room I worked out he was lying with his back towards me and with his head beneath the bedclothes.

I felt really awful for the chastising I had given him earlier, so as not to startle him and not knowing what reaction I would receive, I  touched him gently on the shoulder, whispered his name and asked him if he was ok. His head rose sleepily from under the covers and as he looked around in the darkness he questioned softly.........

"Yes God??  ......... I'm ok."

He was saying his prayers!
